When designing an interior I never use a ‘one size fits all’ approach ( because let’s be honest, that never works anyway) however there are design ‘rules’ I live by to create spaces that look and feel elevated.
Create a colour palette:
Although it can be tempting to paint every single room in your home a different colour, one of my biggest pieces of advice is establishing a core colour palette of paint to use throughout your house. I find that around 5 colours is a sweet spot of maintaining interest without it feeling overwhelming. You will be amazed at how put together your home feels when colours are flowing seamlessly through from space to space.
Consider heights:
When designing your space, its important to consider the impact of heights. If you’ve got everything sitting at one height, it can make the space feel smaller and disproportionate. Embrace every part of your space, this can be done by adding floor to ceiling shelving, gallery walls or mirrors to draw they eye up and create layers of interest.
Don’t forget about lighting:
There are few things worse than having to ‘put the big light on’ so when creating a space, consider different types of lighting to create an ambience. Add wall lights, floor lamps and table lamps at different heights to create a cosy space. Always add warm white bulbs to enhance the cosy vibes.
